Jonesboro, Ga. (August 1, 2016) – The Heritage Community Foundation presented a grant to Marjorie Lacy, Executive Director of the Flint Circuit Council on Family Violence, Inc. dba Haven House, on July 26, 2016. The $3,000 grant will be used by the Haven House Shelter to purchase new furniture. Since the shelter moved to its current location in 2011, the family room furniture has undergone heavy use and is in desperate need of being replaced. This grant will allow Haven House to buy 3-4 vinyl/fabric sofas and 4-6 vinyl/fabric chairs to replace of the assortment of worn-out furniture they currently have. The grant will also allow for the replacement of nine room signs in the family wing.
Haven House is a domestic violence shelter and program serving victims of family violence in Henry, Jasper, Butts and Lamar Counties. The shelter for women and children strives for an atmosphere of care and safety. It provides for both privacy and socialization, with trained staff available to help guide residents through the process of finding legal protection and moving to more permanent housing. The current building opened in 2011; since that time, Haven House has provided 54,601 bed-nights for women and children fleeing their homes. The building can house 40 to 50 residents at a time. Each year, an average of 600 women and children are provided meals, transportation, medical assistance, counseling and housing resettlement assistance at Haven House.
